Users report, Samsung killed Galaxy S23 battery life with April 2023 update

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

In late March, Samsung debuted a big camera firmware update for the Galaxy S23 series in South Korea. And over the past few days, Samsung has expanded the April 2023 update to Galaxy S23 models in various markets, which reportedly affected the battery life.

Everything was great, prior to installing the April 2023 firmware on Samsung Galaxy S23 phones, but the battery efficiency spoiled/killed post-installation. A limited number of S23 users complained that the recent update seriously impacted the battery life.

From Monday, the company has started to expand the April update to Galaxy S23 users outside South Korea. Since we’ve not spotted any battery-related complaints from consumers living in European countries, the issue appears to be limited to select units.

According to user reports, the recent software reduced the battery efficiency of his S23 smartphone. The user claimed that before April OTA, he got 5 hours 21 minutes screen on time on 50 percent battery charge, which slipped to 3 hrs 49 mins now.

Before April Update I got 5 hrs 21 mins for 50% battery. But after April Update I got only 3 hrs 49 mins for the same 50% battery.

As battery backup depends on different aspects such as app usage and assets used by the app’s functional operation. However, another user said that the battery efficiency slightly dropped after installing the April update along with sharing a comparison screenshot.

Meanwhile, a Galaxy S23 user reported that his phone’s standby drain has increased from 2-3 percent to 5-6 percent. And there are a few more similar reports in the comments section of battery drain threads hinting at the impact on the battery efficiency.

As the Galaxy S23 series has just received the April update, users should wait for a few days. Every time when a device gets a new major firmware update, it takes a little bit of time to optimize the operating system and pre-installed applications.

If you still face the battery drain issue, you can consider visiting an authorized Samsung service center to have a phone check-up. And it’s recommended to use a genuine charging adapter and cable to charge your Samsung device as it also impacts battery issues.

Google Maps Crashing issues

Several Android users have recently reported that Google Maps keeps crashing. The issue affects Android users using both stable and beta versions of the app, specifically with versions 11.144.x and 11.145.x.

Users on various Android devices including Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones have noted that Google Maps opens normally but then closes suddenly after a few seconds. This makes the app unusable for checking maps or getting directions.

Notably, the issue seems to be more common for those on the Android 15 Beta, though people with the stable version are also facing the same.

If you’re experiencing this issue, you can try a temporary solution to fix it. You can uninstall recent updates of Google Maps, just need to go to the App info page, and tap on the Uninstall updates option and this may help to fix.

Since Google Maps is often preinstalled on devices, you can’t completely uninstall it. Older versions of the app don’t seem to have this problem, so rolling back to a previous version could be a solution for now.

As of now, Google hasn’t acknowledged the issue or commented on releasing a fix. Not everyone is having this issue, so if your Google Maps is still working, that’s good. If you facing the Google Maps issue, you need to pause updates until this issue is resolved. Stay tuned for updates from Google for a permanent solution.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Manager update

Samsung is aware of the issue related to the sound quality of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro when using the “Concert Hall” feature in the Sound Assistant app. Some people have noticed that the sound becomes muffled and distorted, especially with music that has a lot of bass. This problem only occurs when the “Concert Hall” mode is turned off.

Users of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro reported that the issue is related to the software of the Buds, not a hardware problem. However, users of other devices, like the 2nd generation AirPods, don’t seem to have the same issue, which shows the issue is specific to how the Sound Assistant app works with the Buds Pro 3.
