Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Goodbye edge, welcome flat screen

Galaxy S24 Ultra Titanium Gold Hands On

Last month, we’ve seen a handful of hands-on images of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra. The real-live images of the S24 Ultra reiterated that the company is going to abandon the curved edge display. The Galaxy S24 Ultra looks similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but both the front and back are flat.

Netizens who heard the news argued over the authenticity of the product in the photo. Those who claimed it was a fake cited the fact that Samsung would not be discarding the edge display overnight, which it had insisted on as a feature of its flagship smartphones for a long time.

Those who claimed it was real refuted that there were many consumers who were uncomfortable with the edge display, and that the curvature of the edge display applied to Samsung smartphones actually gradually decreased with each generation.

Earlier this month, Windows Report put an end to the controversy by exclusively revealing the official images of the Galaxy S24 smartphones. The blog also revealed that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be equipped with a flat display without curvature.

Edge display refers to a screen with rounded corners. Since Samsung announced the Galaxy Note Edge, a smartphone with a curved right corner of the screen in September 2014, most of its flagship smartphones have been equipped with edge displays.

Starting with the Galaxy S21, the regular and Plus models were equipped with flat displays, but the Ultra series, the top model, insisted on an edge display. In the Galaxy S23 Ultra released last year, the screen curved was only about 2mm at both ends (the Note Edge curve was 1cm).
